We built a team chat app for people who make software.
That's it. That's the premise.

The problem we actually noticed

You're shipping code. Slack is open. Threads are piling up. Someone drops a question. Someone else pastes a link. Someone else asks the question again because it's already three levels deep in a thread and nobody's seen it.

Meanwhile, the actual work — the PR, the CI log, the ticket, the design, the failing test — exists somewhere else. You're copy-pasting context. A lot. All day.

Chat tools were built to be general. To work for any team, any industry, any use case. Which means they work for none of them that well.

We thought: what if we built one that actually works for tech teams?

What we're building

Drum is a team chat platform built with code teams in mind. It's familiar enough that you can start using it today. It's different enough in the right places that you'll notice the things missing from your current setup aren't here to distract you.

We're not here to add 47 new features. We're here to build something that understands your job.

Your PRs. Your Linear issues. Your CI pipelines. Your Figma files. The things you actually spend your day working with — they should just work in chat. No plugins. No integrations you have to remember to set up. No context-switching.

Why we're starting now

The tools we use shape how we work. If your team chat doesn't understand what engineering is, it'll slow you down. You'll end up copy-pasting more, clicking around more, context-switching more. A thousand small frictions that add up.

We think that's fixable.

We also think it's worth doing right. No rushing. No half-baked integrations. No "ship it and see what breaks."

So this is us: saying hello, building in the open, and sharing what we learn along the way.

Over the next few weeks, we'll share some of the stories behind how Drum came together. Why we made certain bets. What we're learning as we build. And sure — we'll show you what it actually looks like when you use it.
